Singing Lesson #1: Do Re Mi

What is Solfege?

Imagine you’re learning to sing a song. You know the tune, but you want to make sure you’re singing the right notes. That’s where solfege comes in! Solfege is like a special language for singing. Instead of saying the regular alphabet, we use different syllables to help us sing the notes in a song.

The Special Syllables:

Do – This is like the home base. It’s where we start and end most songs. Imagine it’s like your house on a street. It’s your starting point and where you always come back to.

Re – Next up! Re is like the note just above Do. It’s like taking a little step up from home.

Mi – After Re, we have Mi. It’s another little step up from Re.

Fa – Now, we go up one more step. Fa is just a bit higher than Mi.

Sol – Sol is like when you climb up even higher. It’s like reaching for the stars in the sky!

La – La is another note up from Sol. You’re really reaching high now!

Ti – And finally, we have Ti. It’s the last step before we reach back to Do. You’re almost home!

How We Use Solfege:

When we learn a song, we can sing each note using these special solfege syllables. It helps us remember which note comes next and how it sounds compared to the other notes. So, instead of saying the note names like A, B, C, we sing Do, Re, Mi, and so on.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Just like when you learn new words, you need to practice solfege to get really good at it. You can sing scales using solfege, or you can practice singing simple songs using these special syllables. The more you practice, the better you’ll get at singing and understanding music!

Remember, solfege is like a fun game that helps us become better singers and musicians. So, sing out loud, have fun with the notes, and enjoy making beautiful music with solfege!
