In the summer of 2021, Andrea Alhuay and Bella Chang from the California School of the Arts decided to put together a project bringing free arts education to interested youth. Out of this decision, ‘Their Turn’, an organization that overall supports the implementation of both visual and performing arts into the development of youth passions, was created.
Why we wanted to create “Their Turn”:
- Some kids don’t get to grow up in artistically inclined environments and they don’t get the chance to explore the fine and performing arts
- Allowing a child to be creative from a young age can teach them critical thinking skills
- Creative freedom is a controlled outlet for wild imaginations and sensitive, intuitive minds
- Their Turn is designed for youth to teach youth, giving teens at art school the chance to in aspire kids with their knowledge
What does “Their Turn” do?
- Provides beginning classes of different art forms at no cost (taught by teens from CSArts-SGV)
- Being a Source for finding youth art programs nearby
- Donating to Youth Art Foundations in Southern California
Who is on the “Their Turn” team?
The Their Turn team is comprised of driven, caring students at the California School of the Arts. They are from all different kinds of art conservatories and backgrounds, but they all find common ground in Their Turn’s cause. These students are dedicated to sharing the arts, and the Their Turn organization provides them with teaching experience so that they can share what it is that they have learned from being a student at art school and pursuing their passions outside of school.
